A refuge point on the causeway
Holy Island is located in the North Sea, one mile from the mainland. Access to the island is via a causeway which consists of a two lane road and adjacent path. Typically the tide comes in twice a day. It is vital that you know the safe crossing times for the days you are planning to visit Holy Island.
There is also an additional walking route over the sands/mud, which is marked on the Ordnance Survey maps and on many online mapping resources. It is recommended that you do not use this route and instead use the path adjacent to the road if travelling by foot across to Holy Island. This is because the ground is a ‘solid’ route across in comparison to the sand/mud crossing. The times in the timetable link below apply to the road and adjacent path causeway only.

Please give yourself plenty of time to cross at both ends and DO NOT RISK crossing the causeway outside of these times.
