Kielder & Redesdale region

Northumberland's western edges contain some of its most spectacular sites, and the Kielder and Redesdale region is no exception.

Take Kielder Water & Forest Park for example. Not only is it the site of Northern Europe's largest man-made lake, there are also acres of forest to explore. Purpose-built walking trails create perfect forest walks for all the family and with the new Lakeside Way, you'll have a great chance to see a wide range of rare wildlife including the native red squirrels, deer, otters and badgers. While the countryside is remote, and all the more beautiful for that, there is a wealth of activities on offer for everyone.

Kielder and Redesdale tourist information.

For the keen mountain biker there are dedicated mountain bike tracks, including a bike skills area. Water sports enthusiasts can take to Kielder Water from Easter to October and the lake offers a great challenge to keen trout anglers between March and October.

But if organised activities aren't your thing, you can strike out on your own and explore Wild Redesdale - a place where you'll feel like a guest of nature.

You can follow in the footsteps of the Romans while hearing the call of Moorland birds and just sit quietly and listen to the silence.

And Redesdale has a wide variety of holiday accommodation, plus a range of specialist shops and artists' galleries, making it the perfect place for a holiday.

Otterburn is the dale's main village and if you're hungry from all that exploring you can find great food and a friendly welcome at its pubs and country house hotels.
