Nice location

olibot, Durham, United Kingdom
We stayed he for one night. Lovely quiet location. Was quite busy - but no too noticeable. A babbling Brook runs through the site with is nice.. Some nice walks. The facilities however could do with some investment - especially for motor homes.

Border Forest Holiday Park replied: Hello. Thank you for your review and we are so pleased that you enjoyed some of the fab walks diectly off our park. Not sure quite what is meant by 'especially for motor homes',we do have a grey water disposal point at the top of our park (prehaps this was an issue for you, sorry if it was). We hope to see you another time :)

Amazing short break

marynotman, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Lovely lodge in a very nice quiet site. We had a lot of good walks and saw a varied amount of wildlife and got some very good photos. The lodge was very well equipped and cosy and we loved the hot tub. Had lovely meals in the Redesdale Arms which was about 5miles along the road. The pigs on the site were very entertaining and loved our scrap food. Full marks to the owners and staff on the site are very friendly and keep the lodges and site immaculate.

Border Forest Holiday Park replied: Hello Thank you so much for your review. We are very lucky to have such fantastic walks directly from our park and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay :)

Peace and tranquility

MrsBeech,
In brief, check in was swift and easy. Parking was right by our Goshawk Lodge. The place is beautiful, lovely walks, the kids particularly liked the pigs. The lodge was clean and kitchen was well equipped. Slight issue with the oven but was quickly resolved by the owner. Hot tub was excellent though due to rain didn't get to use it as much as we'd have liked (not border forests fault!) There was also a handy folder with walking routes and information on local villages. I'd researched that there was no local shops so had stopped off en route for supplies. I highly recommend you do this as there's literally nothing in easy walking distance (tells you that on the website) All in all a fab little hideaway. 2 things though, 1/ take insect repellent. I was literally a midges banquet. Thousands of the buggers, but I guess you should expect that. 2/ and the reason I knocked a star off, it is advertised as having WiFi. It's the owners personal WiFi, and if you're by their house or at reception then OK, but we were literally 2 lodges back and had nothing. No phone reception either. Whilst for me and my husband this was nicely liberating, for my 13 year old autistic son it was a major issue. We choose and reject places on the strength of WiFi, we also have a portable WiFi hotspot as a back up but with no reception this didn't work either. I'd just recommend updating the website to show that the WiFi is very limited, for most people it wouldn't be an issue. If you're looking for a break to get away from life for a few days, then this place is perfect.

Border Forest Holiday Park replied: Hello Thank you for your review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay.We are a little confused with regard to Wifi as we certainly do not advertise that we have it on our website. We have been fighting and still are to have broadband here and are as frustrated as guests who would like it.We do offer guests are own personal satalite Wifi which can be accessed from our reception which is not ideal but is at the moment all we can offer. Depending on who your phone provider is will determine signals. Thanks again for the constuctive comments and we hope to see you again :)

Little holiday in the rain!

MrsLBrown, Northumberland, United Kingdom
Before arriving I rang Border Forest holiday park to enquire about bedding and spoke to a lovely lady who informed us on all that we needed to know. She also made us aware that the nearest petrol station was some miles away, and advised us to do our food shopping before our arrival as there was t any nearby supermarkets. She also advised us to bring some wellies as the weather was bad. I thought that she was very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in the Goshawk lodge having booked through Hoseasons. Check in is at 4pm and check out at 10am. Check in and was quick and easy, we were instructed to ring buzzer and someone would take us to lodge and show us around. The lodge was in a lovely spot, with parking bays at the back of the lodge and the front facing the woods, the lodge is surrounded by a fair sized grassed area with lots of trees and bushes so it's nice and private. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for self catering, and the fridge/freezer was large and clean. Bedrooms were well presented, a good size, lots of storage and handy ensuite bathroom in master bedroom. Bedding was of good quality and beds comfortable. We had a little issue with the cooker, we couldn't get it to ignite and not being able to find user manual or instructions, we had to call reception and the guy who checked us in came out within minutes. Unfortunately, he didn't know how to use cooker either and had to call someone (a lady) who explained that unfortunately the instructions had gone missing. Eventually we got it to work. Not a massive issue at all but maybe a new set of instructions would be helpful to others staying in this lodge. We really loved the hot tub, my Daughter was in this night and day! It was our saving grace really as the weather was so poor during our stay. It would be great if there was a shelter that you could pull over you if desired, as we got soaked in the rain. There was no wifi and poor signal due to the location but we found this to be a welcomed escape. Although, having no wifi meant there was nothing to entertain our little ones, the TV Freeview channels were poor. Luckily we had with us a portable DVD player with plenty of films for the kids. There were pigs, horses to visit and done roaming chickens too. It was great that there were ride on's, bikes and play tractors that the kids could help themselves too and enjoy during your stay. The road running through the campsite was all one way and a 5mph speed limit - which is ideal for exploring children. My only issue was that we were not supplied with enough towels for the duration of our stay. We were there from the Friday to Monday and there was four of us. We were only given one bath towel each. This simply wasn't enough for us, bearing in mind that we all showered every morning, used the hot tub and showered again to wash off the chlorine. It was too warm to have the heating on and we couldn't dry the towels quick enough. I had rang reception before we left for our visit and the kind lady who we spoke to informed us that towels were provided and that we only needed to bring a towel for our dog. I did regret not bringing our own with us. The main bathroom wasn't as clean as the rest of the lodge, the shower door was grubby and looked like it hadn't been cleaned throughly for some time. See photos. There was a lovely welcome basket with cookies, tea and coffee etc which was lovely but the coffee pot looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. We really enjoyed our stay, there was tears from our daughter when leaving. We'd definitely stay again without hesitation, although we will bring more towels and will be more prepared for bad weather!

Border Forest Holiday Park replied: Hello. Thank you for the very comprehensive review and we have certainly taken on board some of your thoughts and we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay inspite of the weather! Wifi is an issue in this part of Northumberland, we have been fighting and still are BT and Open Reach to have broadband here and are as frustrated as guests who would like it.We do offer guests our own personal satalite Wifi which can be accessed from our reception which is not ideal but is at the moment all we can offer. As for freeview TV the channels that are accessible here is simply all we get, lol. We have now replaced the oven with a new one. Regarding the towels that we supply I'm so sorry that you appeared to be told that all towels including for the hot tub are supplied. We only supply bathroom towels to our lodges, I will also check with Hoseasons that they make this very clear. We really look forward to welcoming you back especially your little girl who made friends with all our creatures. Thank you again for your review :)

Little Owl Lodge

JR_01976, County Durham, United Kingdom
We stayed at little owl lodge for 3 nights. The lodge is a perfect getaway for two, well equipped with essentials and thoughtful touches such as binoculars and a star gazing book. The owners of the lodge are friendly and helpful. The hot tub was fantastic, especially on a crisp clear night, a perfect way to star gaze. Lovely walking routes in the local area. Would definitely recommend.

Border Forest Holiday Park replied: Hello and thank you so much for your review. We are very lucky to be in the centre of the dark skies here in Northumberland and you are so right when it's clear,oh boy do the stars shine! So glad you enjoyed your stay in Little Owl :)
