Two Nights Here On PW Walk

asimplekindagal85, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
We stayed at Lyndale Guest house for two nights during our walk of the Pennine Way. We were warmly greeted on our arrival by Ken and offered tea by his wife Joyce before being shown to our room. We stayed in room N°1 which was pretty small in size, especially given that we had two large suitcases and really no room to put them anywhere. Our room had en suite facilities, a kettle and a double bed. The room decor is dated however the room as a whole was comfortable and nice views across the moorland. Breakfast was a nice and relaxed communcal affair with plenty of choice on offer such as cereals, yoghurt, fruit, full English and veggie/gluten free options. We also took advantage of the packed lunches which were okay for £5 (sandwich, apple and some boiled sweets as being gluten free I couldn't eat the muffin usually offered). I must say thay Kenn and Joyce are a very very friendly couple and more than willing to help or make your stay as comfy as possible. They really are lovely people doing a good job of running a B&B. Our wet boots were even dried for us to help with our next days walking which was a really nice touch. However there are two main reasons why I haven't rated Lyndale higher. 1. The noise. As our bedroom was next door to the living room and off the main corridor it was pretty noisy. We could hear the tv late into the evening which was distracting when trying to sleep. Also in the morning, those guests who were up early were quite loud and we could hear noises/talking from the breakfast room/kitchen which woke us up. This is most likely due to the layout of the house, however it was distracting and did wake us/keep us awake. 2. For our evening meal we nipped to the local Chinese takeaway owing to a long and difficult day of walking. However we had to eat outside in the back garden as we were told categorically no food like this was to be eaten in the house. I totally appreciate that not everyone wants takeaways etc in their homes because of potential mess etc, however eating outside wasn't really ideal at all. It was cold, windy and rainy which made that evening meal unpleasant to say the least. Yes we were under a gazebo however it certainly wasn't comfortable or relaxing as you'd hope an evening meal would be! Especially when your hosts tell you that they get a takeaway occasionally but seemingly eat theirs indoors. As I have said, Ken and Joyce are really lovely people and our stay was made as pleasant as possible. However the two main points I have called out sort of spoiled the stay for my husband and myself.

A great find

I spent a night here and was warmly welcomed by the owners who couldn't have been more helpful. The room was comfortable and clean and the communal breakfast was another highlight. In a great situation with several lovely walks close by.

Fantastically welcoming

Hurdster,
Myself and 3 other cyclists stayed at Lyndale Guest house whilst cycling the Sandstone way. Greeted by Ken and Joy who are such a loverly friendly couple. Tea and biscuits after a hard days cycling was just what we needed. Rooms nice and clean with good facilities and a very plentiful breakfast was just what we needed for the cycle home. Definitely recommended thanks again Ken and Joy for making us so welcome 👍

Two nights on the Pennine Way - a great stay.

We were welcomed to Lyndale with team and biscuits. This set the scene for our stay; Ken and Joy were very welcoming, really accommodating and very knowledge about the surrounding area. The room (twin) and facilities were excellent value for money and the breakfast was plentiful and beautifully cooked. A really excellent stay; if you are walking the Pennine away, cycling in the area or just touring locally we thoroughly recommend a stay at Lyndale - you won't be disappointed. Many thanks Ken and Joy.

Lovely and welcoming B&B

This was my second visit to Lyndale. The owners are so welcoming and helpful, yet not intrusive on your privacy. The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need. There is tea on arrival and the breakfast is superb with abundant choice. Plentiful parking.
