WELCOME to HENSHAW BARN - a beautiful rustic building deep in the heart of Hadrians Wall country.

During its agricultural life the barn provided storage space for hay and welcome shelter for cattle, now it is a much loved family home for Pauline and John and their two setters.

The focus throughout the barn conversion has been to remain true to the strength and simplicity of the building. Original A-frame beams have been preserved, and french oak beams added to the ground floor. Beautiful oak doors add warmth to the exposed stone, whilst a huge wood burning stove is an additional enhancement. Furniture is predominantly country pine and oak, complemented by opulent fabrics, and squashy sofas smothered in cushions.

Modern amenities matter:- The marriage of the old with the new arises with the installation throughout of super efficient under floor heating; fabulous power showers; ample hot water; wonderfully comfortable beds; snuggly duvets and quality linen; luscious toiletries; and the  luxury of fluffy towels and cosy bathrobes.

As an added enticement chef John provides fresh, locally sourced, seasonal food.. wholesome and substantial breakfasts, and very delicious evening meals....designed to excite the eye and please the palate.

Henshaw Barn is within walking distance of all the major heritage attractions, including the Roman forts of Housesteads and Vindolanda. Annual excavations continue to unearth precious and often priceless artefacts, all of which can be seen in the museums dotted along the length of the Wall.

The picturesque market towns of Hexham and Corbridge lie 12 miles along the Tyne Valley, and are home to delights such as Hexham Abbey, traditional farmers markets and a host of unique independent shops. Great historic houses and castles pepper the region, with beautiful beaches, wild stretches of coast and our magnificent National Park, all within easy reach.

If Carlsberg ran B&B's.....

Pauline and John are the perfect hosts - it was our first time staying with them and yet it felt like visiting old friends. We were in the area for a 50th Birthday Party and John even drove us to the venue and back at the end of the night! Views from the B&B are amazing, the room was wonderful, breakfast was incredible as John is a professional cook (I'm not a big black pudding fan but John persuaded me to have a slice of his own recipe BP with my breakfast and I was so glad I did). Faultless!

Thank you both so much for looking after us so wonderfully, we could not have been pampered more. Pauline and John really did put us first and ensured that everything was just spot on ...from the welcome to our depart. There is a very special feeling at Henshaw Barn and it is in the detail ! The Barn is so cosy and relaxing, the food is to die for! John is a wonderful cook providing a full and scrumptious breakfast with loads of choices; the evening meals can be arranged on request. The food is gorgeous and locally sourced... you two should be proud of yourselves! We have stayed twice at Henshaw and have slept in both bedrooms -absolutely gorgeous ... so comfortable and pretty! We really could not have asked for anything else, thanks for a great time and for telling us so much about here to go and what to see! Such lovely hosts! The location and surrounding countryside is so beautiful it really as the perfect place !

Delightful combination of fine-dining, a warm welcome and stylish, yet comfortable accommodation

Pauline and John could not have taken more trouble to make us feel welcome: we were given a pot of tea on arrival and their personal attention to our every comfort in the ensuing evening and following morning was delightful. Their home ( a superbly converted barn) is stylish and yet very comfortable and they allow you to feel very much part of their 'family' without in any way being too intrusive. The bed was large and extremely comfortable, the food (both evening meal, chosen from an 'a la carte' menu before arrival, and breakfast, all cooked by John) was 'out of this world' and the countryside around just lovely. A wonderful overnight stay in a delightfully rural location, yet easily accessible from A69. There are only two bedrooms and, we think, it would not be ideal for a stay with children.

What can we say....simply lovely

Thank you Pauline and John for making us feel so welcome. You have a lovely home and we were fortunate to share that for one night. Beautifully clean accomodation and delicous breakfast. We look forward to a return visit to partake of John's evening meal. You deserve 6 stars plus. And the bed linen......ooooh divine...such a sweet fresh smelling bed we have ever slept in. We'll be back.

Henshaw Barn replied: Thank you for posting such a lovely review - it was such a pleasure to meet you - you were great company - we were so sorry that you were only able to stay for the one night - but other times are always a possible. It was good to know that you were happy with all you found at Henshaw, particularly as you yourselves have 'hospitality' connections.... We can't help but look forward to seeing you again - and hopefully that will happen before too long? Big thanks - and all our best wishes, Pauline and John. :-)
