Hello Dick and Margaret welcome you to Hall Barns and hope you enjoy your stay.

Hall Barns was originally called ‘Thawle Barnys’ there was a tower here in troublesome days of raiding and a mention of it dating back to 1541.

We moved here in February 2006 and have had the house refurbished to 3 letting en suite rooms for short or long stay. There are 2 twin rooms and a family room which can sleep 4, also a sitting room with TV and a log fire in the winter, of which you can sit and relax after your day of walking or site seeing. In the summer you may sit in the garden and enjoy the peace and quiet, the scenic views around you have a barbecue or just watch the sun set. To the east you will see a large castle of which is Chipchase the Torday family reside there today.

This is a working farm belonging to a large estate the owners Allgood family live at Nunwick Hall. The village of Simonburn is a small hamlet part of the estate as is many of the surrounding farms. In the village there is a shop, a beautiful church, well worth a look, which is a 5 minute walk away. Surrounding areas is Hadrian’s Wall (with its many Roman sites), National Forest Park, Hexham Abbey and the historic town of Corbridge. We have easy access on uncrowded roads to Kielder, which is the largest man made forest and lake in Europe. Newcastle, Gateshead and the unspoilt Northumbrian Coast, Durham, Carlisle, Alnwick and the Scottish Borders are all within visiting distance.

This is an ideal location from which to enjoy the peaceful North Tyne Valley. You can go walking, cycling and nearby facilities offer opportunities to go horse riding horse racing, canoeing, bird watching or fishing of which the river North Tyne is renowned for its salmon.

Outstanding hospitality

Chris M, Claremont, California
Margaret, the owner, could not have been more welcoming. She dried out our wet boots, gave us hot tea on entry, and set up dinner for us at The Tea Rooms in Simonburn. Room was large, clean, comfortable, Wifi. Breakfast was great with healthy choices and good coffee. Highly recommended

HallBarns B&B replied: Thank you for your review. Nice to start your next day walking with dry boots we tried our best to get them dry.

Wonderful stay in June

Margaret is so welcoming and runs an excellent establishment. We enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal after a busy day walking Hadrians Wall. Extremely comfortable room overnight and an excellent breakfast the next morning. A good value packed lunch with roll, yogurt, biscuit, fruit and bottled water to see us on our way is also recommended for other travellers.

HallBarns B&B replied: Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay

Walking Hadrian's Wall

Upon arrival the offer of a cup of tea or coffee with homemade cake was very much appreciated, Margaret is a very warm and kind person, nothing seemed to much trouble, both Margaret and Dick went out of there way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Our room was of generous proportions, very clean and well decorated. If we are ever in the area again we would certainly re-book with them and would not hesitate to recommend them to others. 4th Day walking the Wall

Margaret tries hard to make a wonderful first impression with a profusion of flowers and attractive frontage. Entering the hallway reinforces the feeling that your stay will be very comfortable with a well appointed common area and dining room. Our room was a bit tight but very comfortable with a large separate private bath adjacent. Margaret provided transport to the local Crown pub which was excellent. We would definitely go back when near Simonburn.

Welcome home!

Thayer C,
Margaret Locke is an extraordinary person ! We spent four nights at Hallbarns, three while walking St. Oswald's Way and one while walking Hadrian's Wall. The setting feels remote and is so quiet and peaceful. There's a garden to sit in if the weather permits, and our room was large and comfortable. But it's Margaret's spirit that infuses the place. She is warm, efficient, honest and generous. She's a terrific cook and the dinners we ate there we're memorable. Her husband Dick drove us to our starting point each day and filled us full of local lore and history. By the time we left we felt like family. This is a place not to be missed.

HallBarns B&B replied: Pleased you enjoyed your stay, and nice to see you again on your second walk.
