Brilliant stay, and a 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience

Annie P,
We had a truly outstanding stay at this lovely B&B/alpaca farm. We'd travelled up to support a friend who was running the 75km of the North Tyne Trail. A long drive and slow traffic meant we were very late arriving, but we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by Kathryn and Paul. Our room was beautiful - spotlessly clean and with pretty decor, with a spacious shower room and the famous alpaca wool filled duvets and pillows, which were soooo comfortable. There were thoughtful touches too - hot water bottles, nice bathroom products, shortbread biscuits. Breakfasts were delicious - there's a wide choice to suit everyone, with a focus on local produce and super-fresh ingredients (the eggs were collected that morning, and the homemade bread was still warm). We asked if we could see the alpacas, and Paul couldn't have been kinder or more informative, especially given how busy he was. We had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing a baby alpaca (which I now know is called a cria) being born. The house is perfectly situated for the pretty town of Hexham, and for Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding gorgeous Northumberland countryside. All in all a really outstanding experience which I can't recommend highly enough. Thank you so much Kathryn and Paul (and Hannah, Will and Lesley!)

Little piece of heaven

,
A warm welcome awaits any visitor who can't fail to enjoy this little haven of peace and indulgence. Owners have gone to great lengths to ensure a comfortable, restful stay and the breakfasts are to wonderful....you'll need a good walk in the local area to work it off afterwards....you've been warned!!!! But you'll be back for the 2nd day of your stay ready for the next one, very tastes and the owners will happily adapt it to your tastes. Book with confidence and enjoy.

Good B&B

752euanh, Kirriemuir
This is a good B&B with well appointed rooms. Parking was a bit tight especially in the dark, also not easy to find using the post code - again in the dark. My room was warm comfortable & well appointed. The bathroom was large & importantly the shower was good. A bit expensive at £109 for single occupancy (but as good as a hotel room), there were a few nice touches in the room.

Fairshaw Rigg replied: Many thanks for your review. Historically we have not had a single occupancy discount on our Superior Double room but one was available on both the other double and the twin room. However we always listen to guest feedback and we do now offer a reduced rate for single occupancy in all our 3 rooms. It's is also worth pointing out the very best rates are always available on our own website or over the phone. The large online booking sites are very costly to us.

Birthday treat for my boyfriend

Alicehenry1991,
We visited this b&b from, 30th December to the 1st January to celebrate my boyfriends birthday as well as our anniversary. I had called ahead in November to ask if some balloons and banners could be put up as a surprise for my boyfriend and it was absolutely no bother to Kathryn who more than happy to do this for me. When we arrived Paul greeted us, explained everything we needed to know and showed us to our room. We had chosen the double at the end which had the 4 piece en suite and the bathroom overlooking the alpaca field. The room was lovely and warm, we loved the decor and found the room overall very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, we couldn't get enough of the homemade bread, absolutely delicious. Between us we had a mix of things from then menu but I loved the full Northumberland. I asked if I could swap some of the things I didn't like (mushrooms and tomatoes) for potatoe rostis instead (which I love) and again this was no bother for Paul who was more than accommodating at breakfast. We definitely didn't go without. A big hand to Paul who on the 2nd day did breakfast for 6 single handedly and still produced a quality breakfast and service. We asked Paul if we could go and see the alpacas (which we were really excited about) and again this was no bother. He took us into the paddock after breakfast and told us all about the alpacas in the paddock. They were very friendly and were not phased by strangers being there. We loved going into the bathroom and seeing if the alpacas were in view. They are such funny animals. Paul has an abundance of knowledge of the local area if you need any recommendations of what to do or where to visit. Overall a very lovely, comfortable and accommodating stay. We definitely weren't ready to leave! Thanks for such a lovely stay.

Fairshaw Rigg replied: Thanks Alice for such a comprehensive and kind review. We do try hard to make everyone's stay enjoyable and it's incredibly rewarding when it is so clearly appreciated
