What a great find!

richardhoyland, Sheffield, United Kingdom
Fairshaw Rigg is 2 miles away from Hexham, close enough for the amenities, far enough for peace and quiet. This place is home from home with the proprietors (Paul and Kathryn) being the perfect hosts, from advice on where to visit down to the best places to eat. The accomodation is clean and comfortable and we were made very welcome (even by the Alpacas) which they breed on land close by. I won't hesitate to recommend Fairshaw Rigg and it would be nice to return later this year given the chance as there's lots to see and do in this part of the country.

Nice b and b

pictou, Spring, Texas
Nice place. Nice owners. Great breakfast. Only slightly bad thing I could say is the sheets and towels smelled of scented detergent/softener which might bother someone if they are sensitive. Also more as a FYI they have dogs... No problem for us but might be for some. They were well behaved though.

Nice location butt walls too thin

pennybobbles, north yorkshire
These are lovely people and the room we had (the deluxe king size with bath) was immaculately clean and the bedding was wonderful, well done to Kathryn who makes a fabulous job of the housekeeping side of things, unfortunately our room was next to the laundry room which seems to be going 24/7. The washer could be heard, indeed you could tell which part of the programme it was up to! The tumble dryer rumbled on like thunder in the background. At 10.30pm on Saturday night we had to ask for the tumble dryer to be turned off as the noise was bad. Maybe other room options are better but the interior walls were so thin you could hear everything said in the corridor outside the guest rooms. We think this is way overpriced as breakfast is not included in the £105 per room per night priced. Also, although a small touch, maybe 2 biscuits in the otherwise empty jar is a touch mean! Small things can make or break businesses such as this, so better to forgo the small token altogether or put in more biscuits, e.g. Fill it up! The dogs were wonderful, lovely meet and greet from those two. Breakfast costs £10 each which we didn't have, I'm sure it would have been good but maybe some couples tables rather than have to sit at the family's table altogether would give a bit more privacy. We paid cash but unfortunately we were charged double via out credit card details which were given at point of booking. After bringing this to Paul's attention a refund was given. A shame he didn't inform us of the error he had made rather than us having to chase it up.

Fairshaw Rigg replied: Reviews like this only go to prove you can't please all the people all the time! Unfortunately on the odd occasion where one thing goes wrong you can almost another will too. Only the tumble dryer was left going in error - for which we apologised profusely at the time - I don't think we'd have the excellent reviews we have f the "laundry" ran 24/7. Your insinuation that I purposely double charged you is regrettable We are truly sorry that things did go wrong during your stay - as we are that you felt compelled to go into print - it really hurts.

Easy access to Hadrian's Wall

pbguceg, La Grange
My husband and I traveled through England and Scotland in May. We are both retired, so our perspective on this review may be slightly different from others. The spacious airy room was on the ground floor. It had one chair. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were a little thin for our taste. We each have CPAP machines to use while we sleep. Therefore, bedside tables and power outlets are important to use. This room had a bedside table on each side of the bed. We found power outlets behind each bedside table, which were easily accessible. The bath was compact with a smallish shower and a very nice showerhead. The bathroom had a towel warmer which is a very nice addition. Internet connectivity is important to us. The WiFi speed was 43Mbps download and 8Mbps download. This means it is very fast. We wish every hotelier could provide his guests with such fast Internet access. This room had very functional coffee/tea making facilities. Parking for our car was on premises just feet from the front door. Kathryn and Paul were friendly and helpful. A good cooked breakfast with nice fruit and yogurt was served once you are seated and have ordered. They make fresh bread every morning.

Fairshaw Rigg replied: Really appreciate your praise and observations - we strive to learn and improve all the time. Thanks for taking the time.

Brilliant stay, and a 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience

Annie P, London, United Kingdom
We had a truly outstanding stay at this lovely B&B/alpaca farm. We'd travelled up to support a friend who was running the 75km of the North Tyne Trail. A long drive and slow traffic meant we were very late arriving, but we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by Kathryn and Paul. Our room was beautiful - spotlessly clean and with pretty decor, with a spacious shower room and the famous alpaca wool filled duvets and pillows, which were soooo comfortable. There were thoughtful touches too - hot water bottles, nice bathroom products, shortbread biscuits. Breakfasts were delicious - there's a wide choice to suit everyone, with a focus on local produce and super-fresh ingredients (the eggs were collected that morning, and the homemade bread was still warm). We asked if we could see the alpacas, and Paul couldn't have been kinder or more informative, especially given how busy he was. We had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing a baby alpaca (which I now know is called a cria) being born. The house is perfectly situated for the pretty town of Hexham, and for Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding gorgeous Northumberland countryside. All in all a really outstanding experience which I can't recommend highly enough. Thank you so much Kathryn and Paul (and Hannah, Will and Lesley!)

Fairshaw Rigg replied: Many thanks for your comprehensive and kind review Annie You'll be pleased to know that Cosmic Girlwho you saw born has gone from strength to strength after a slightly difficult first few hours.
