Overview

A former 18th Century Coaching Inn, Eals Lodge is now a 4 star bed & breakfast set within the Northumberland National Park on the Kielder Road, 4 miles from Kielder Water in the beautiful Tarset Valley, and overlooks the North Tyne River with wonderful views of Thorneyburn Common.

We have 3 rooms, 2 en-suite wc/shower and 1 family suite with private wc/shower on the landing. This room can also be used for walkers and cyclists. All rooms have flat screen TV/DVD, hair driers and well stocked hospitality tray. WiFi is available and there is ample parking outside the house.

Our breakfast menu, prepared by the owners, includes a wonderful Northumbrian cooked breakfast sourced from local award winning butchers, fresh eggs from our own hens, with jams and marmalades specially made in Northumberland, and all what we offer is backed up with 3 breakfast awards from VisitEngland.

We have a wonderful guest lounge to relax in after a full day in Kielder before going out for an evening meal, a short distance from Eals Lodge.

Surrounded by stunning countryside, you may want to go walking, cycling, take part in watersports or mountain biking, together with many organised events in Kielder Water & Forest Park throughout the year, like badger and red squirrel watches, dawn chorus walks, and bat nights. The Calvert Trust also organises various activities for families at Kielder.

As the Reivers Cycle route is nearby, we can cater for those doing this ride and can house 5 cyclists at any one time. We have storage for bikes and drying facilities after a wet day in the saddle. If you encounter mechanical problems or you require spares for your bike, the Bike Place in Kielder Village is there to help.

Bird watching and visiting the Bird of Prey Centre is also very popular and you may consider coming to see the Ospreys which have been coming back to Kielder to breed and raise their chicks. You can also view them on a live camera link while having tea /coffee in the Dukes Pantry tearoom in Kielder Castle.

Kielder is deemed to have England's least polluted night skies and now boasts a modern Observatory built on the Black Fell hilltop overlooking Kielder Village. The International Dark Skies Association has granted Gold Tier Dark Sky Park status to The Northumberland National Park and Kielder Water & Forest Park, making it an ideal place to go stargazing.

We are open in the run up to Christmas for families visiting Winter Wonderland, an all day event for the family.

Or maybe you just want to get away from it all and enjoy the area.

Northumberland is steeped in history, changing hands between Scotland and England with the conflict of the Border Reivers, and is well known for its ancient Bastilles and Peles. Eals Lodge can be used as a base to explore this area, the classic homes such as Cragside and Wallington and the famous Hadrian’s Wall, which is now a World Heritage Site, are nearby.  A little further afield are the historical castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne. You can visit the coast for a day and take a memorable trip to the Farne Islands, seeing the colonies of various birds and seals. From Kielder Village you can travel over the Scottish border and visit Newcastleton or the border towns of Hawick and Jedburgh

Nicest part of our visit to Winter Wonderland.

CScorer, North Shields, United Kingdom
We booked this place last year but due to the floods we had to cancel. It was due to Bill and Pauline's advice that year that we didn't travel. It was also due to the their lovely way of dealing with us we immediately booked again with them . On arrival we booked in with our 5 and 6 year old children. We were shown to our room and invited back down for a cup of tea and a milkshake for the kids. The kids helped bill make this and I had my tea. I can honestly say they are one of the nicest couples I have ever met and the kids thought bill was one of santas helpers as he was so nice with them (we were going to winter wonderland). The room was great and full of character, again the kids loved it. Breakfast was as good as a fried breakfast gets (eggs laid in the garden). We left early to visit winter wonderland and had a lovely day. When we returned home, my daughter became upset and said it was because she missed the nice man from the place we had stayed. I had to promise her we will return sometime to see them again, which we most definitely will!!

A gem of a B&B in beautiful Northumberland

Phil R, Lewes, United Kingdom
We had a lovely stay at this great B&B. Bill & Pauline couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast deserves all of the awards (currently covering an entire wall). Very handy for Kielder Water and the Observatory.

Comfortable and homely B & B

Nicholas H,
My partner and I stayed here whilst we visited the Kielder observatory. We were warmly welcomed by Bill and were immediately impressed with the gorgeous views. The rooms were comfortable and breakfast was delicious and locally sourced. Overall a very comfortable experience with Bill and Pauline clearly having worked hard to create a homely and welcoming environment. Would definitely stay here again.

Even better the second time round

Hashim282, UK
Have spent a night here on my own over a year ago, I brought my wife for a walking holiday and were once again warmly welcomed by Bill & Pauline. It was like coming back to old friends and set the foundation for another lovely stay. We were here for three nights and ate sumptuous breakfasts every morning and benefited greatly from Milland Pauline's advice about walking trails, shopping hotspots and places to eat. Our room was extremely comfortable and thoughtfully furnished and the armchair by the windows looking out over the Tyne valley is a masterstroke. We'll be back.
