There is homemade tea for our guests to relax on arrival and there is always plenty of hot water for showers. Radio and colour TV in lounge for guests. Good Northumbrian breakfast in conservatory, which also caters for vegetarians. A good welcome to guests, very friendly house. Ideally situated for golf, sailing, walking, cycling, fishing, bowling and bird-watching.
Events and activities from August to September include needlepoint, craft fair, clippy mat chat at Woodhorn Colliery Museum and the Miners Picknick. Every Sunday afternoon from 1400-1600, open air band concerts in the Bridge Street piazza, July-August. Newbiggin lifeboat day July. Lifeboat house is the oldest working boathouse in the country. Local people are very friendly. We have a new Maritime Centre for 2011.
Newbiggin Lifeboat Service and Newbiggin Lifeboat Day take place in July, St. Bartholomew's Church Newbiggin by the Sea is a beautiful medieval church which King John granted the charter for in 1204.
Woodhorn Colliery Museum houses the Northumberland County Records (archives) is a good source of information for family trees etc.
Nearby Woodhorn Church reputedly, the oldest church on the Northumberland Coast dating back from Saxon time is a lovely church.
Coast to Castles Route One, goes through Newbiggin-by-the-Sea for cyclists and walkers. Lovely walks around Newbiggin-by-the-Sea can be found in nearby Wansbeck Riverside Park, Bedlington Country Park, Humfort Mill Woods (The Hapenny Woods of Bedlington, it used to cost a half penny to go through them) and Bothal Woods.
For people who like to shop, good shopping areas include Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Ashington, Blyth, through to Metro Centre and also factory shops. From Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, all within easy reach about 1/2 an hour away, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Rothbury, and Cragside. Guests are welcome to come to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea and see Northumberland and surrounding areas, coastline North and South, also Border County, are steeped in history and all are outstanding natural beauty.
