The market town of Alnwick, 30 miles away, is home to the castle occupied by the Duke of Northumberland, used for filming  ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Harry Potter’, making  a wonderful day out with something for all the family. Nearby Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is home to the only east coast off-shore sculpture and a maritime museum open all year round. Travelling inland, it is just as easy to explore the Northumberland National Park - or head west for the day to explore Hadrian’s Wall and the pretty village of Corbridge. Now in it's 80th year this event is known to locals as "Etal Flower Show", or even just "The Show". Held every year on the first Sunday in September, it takes place in a large marquee, opposite the Tillside cricket pitch.
