Coarse fishing in Northumberland

Northumberland offers first-class coarse fishing in its rivers and reservoirs.

Most of the county's coarse fishing fans head to our main river, The Tyne, but there are a host of other opportunities in the lower reaches of many of our biggest rivers including the Tweed, Till and Blyth.

Coarse fish you can expect to catch in Northumberland include dace, roach, pike and chubb.

Whittle Dene, a reservoir managed by Northumbrian Water, near Harlow Hill, has a growing reputation as a course fishing paradise with a choice of four lakes and a good head of wild species including roach, perch and gudgeon.

Double figure nets are a weekly event with weights of 30lb a regular occurrence.
There is even a new, extra, Western Lake to fish in. To fish at Whittle Dene can cost as little as £4.

Other prime coarse locations include Bolam Lake, near Belsay - where you may catch pike. Permits are available from Belsay Post Office.
